The rape of the sabine woman

The rape of the Sabine describes the abduction of women from the tribe of the sabines by the founders of Rome.

Acording to legend, in the Rome of the early days there were very few women. And so, Romulus, the founder and first king, organized a contest in honor of the god neptune, he invited people from the neighboring towns. Many won, but a population, the sabini, were particularly willing and went to Rome with their wifes and childrens, preceded by their king.

when the spectacle of games began, every roman kidapped a woman. The romans tried to calm the woman. They believed thett only because they wanted to be their wifes, they should feel proud to become part of a people who had been chosen by the gods. Sabine women put a requeriment at the time of marriage: at home, they could only ocupy the loom, without being obliged to perform other household chores.
